The lighting systems in Jerusalem will be replaced during the coming year with green and advanced LED lighting. As part of the environmental and green project, by the year 2023, about 15,000 lighting fixtures throughout the city will be replaced with cost-effective LED lighting. The lighting replacement budget was approved after the preparation of a comprehensive plan presented to the various government ministries.

The data show that the investment in lighting replacement will streamline municipal expenditures on maintenance and electricity and reduce these expenditures by between 60-50 percent. Additional benefits to this venture are lighting quality, increased road safety and environmental protection.

The Jerusalem Municipality stated that “the latest lighting systems include a unique control and management system, which will enable fast and efficient handling of faults and will even form the infrastructure for smart city technologies. “Sports pitches for LED lighting, which includes the possibility of remote control of each flashlight.”

As mentioned, as published in “Kol Ha’ir”, during the past year, approximately 2,200 lighting lamps with this technology were installed and replaced in the public space, as part of an initiative to replace the lighting and upgrade streets and public parks. In addition, the lighting department carried out scenic projects, which include lighting monuments throughout the city as well as upgrading lighting and control systems to about 20 complexes and sports fields throughout the city. According to the plan, in 2022, LED lighting systems will be replaced in 44 neighborhoods throughout the city, and a total of about 15,000 smart lighting fixtures will be replaced.

Mayor Moshe Leon: “Enlighten, streamline and also save. Replacing lighting systems in the city is another step in the green revolution in Jerusalem. Replacing the systems will reduce municipal spending, improve the quality and safety of lighting and help us preserve the environment.”
