Closed since mid-March following the ban on gatherings, judo halls are preparing to resume their activities with the priority of preserving the health and safety of judokas.

In this sense, the president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Judo League, Abderrahim El Bahloul, indicated that the most important thing today, after the announcement of the gradual resumption of activities, is to consider the opening of judo clubs and associations that have scrupulously respected the measures of the state of health emergency, despite the constraints and difficulties they faced.

The call to accelerate the reopening of these clubs and associations stems from the great role they play in supervising young people, given their presence in most neighborhoods in urban areas and in some countrysides, stressed Mr. El Bahloul, who emphasizes the importance of their role in promoting human values among young people and children.

However, the League president retorted that the resumption of these sports associations should be gradual in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health. Also, the associations must commit to applying drastic measures to prevent the spread of the virus by ensuring the cleanliness of the premises and respect for social distancing, he added.

According to Mr. El Bahloul, training within these clubs, which must first meet the appropriate conditions, should be done through the distribution of judokas into small groups, ensuring that the rooms and sports equipment are sterilized continuously and after each session.

Distancing is all the more important in these places where athletes cannot wear masks, explained the president of the Flambeau de Salé Association, specifying that the body needs a large quantity of oxygen during exercise while masks reduce this supply.

He also highlighted the economic and social repercussions of the suspension of activities on coaches and people working in these associations and clubs, particularly in terms of salaries and rent for premises.

To overcome the financial difficulties encountered by judo associations, he highlighted the efforts of the board of directors of the Royal Moroccan Judo Federation, which has launched several solidarity initiatives with the coaches of the discipline and their entourage, which will be announced in the coming days.

In addition to the economic aspect, he said that the suspension also impacted the technical level of the judokas of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra League which includes several elements of the national selection of different categories.

Faced with this problem, Mr. El Bahloul added, the League decided in coordination with the training committee, the technical committee, the presidents of associations, the supervisors and the coaches, to adopt distance training so that these judokas can maintain their physical condition according to a training program that includes the technical and physical aspects.

Technical training in these conditions is very difficult, he said, specifying that judokas are obliged to have a partner to train in the various techniques of the discipline.

The president of the League concluded that national judo is going in the right direction and can overcome all obstacles, especially since it has the best coaches and technicians at the regional and national levels, and a board of directors, headed by Shafiq Al-Kettani, which includes talents capable of raising the practice in Morocco to the rank of leading countries in the discipline.
