Major Disaster Declared in Illinois: Federal Assistance Available for Severe Storm and Flood Recovery Efforts
Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. announced a major disaster declaration for the State of Illinois, authorizing Federal assistance to support state and local recovery efforts following severe storms and flooding that occurred from June 29 to July 2, 2023.
The declaration specifically makes Federal funding available to affected individuals in Cook County. This assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and various other programs aimed at helping individuals and business owners recover from the devastating impact of the disaster.
In addition to individual assistance, Federal funding will also be provided on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures in Cook County. These measures are crucial in minimizing future risks and ensuring the community’s resilience against similar disasters.
