The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, confirmed this Tuesday morning that he has sent a proposal to the Legislative Assembly for the suspension of tariffs on basic basket products for a decade. The proposal will be submitted to be discussed and approved at the next ordinary plenary session.

The Head of State pointed out that the proposal seeks to suspend the payment of tariffs on all products in the expanded basic basket, as well as another 70 food products, for a period of 10 years.

“Today, I will send a proposal to suspend all tariffs on all products in the expanded basic basket, as well as 70 other food products, for a period of 10 years,” President Nayib Bukele posted on his official X account.

This would be one of the measures that the Government of El Salvador has implemented to counteract the hyperinflation of prices that has affected the entire world in recent months due to various political and social crises.

Among these measures, the government headed by Bukele has promoted measures to alleviate the economic hardships of Salvadoran families, such as the implementation of agricultural markets throughout the country.

With 30 establishments promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the agricultural markets are present in the 14 departments of El Salvador, providing food products at fair prices to the entire population.
