President Carter’s days are numbered: he decided to receive home hospice care

by time news

Former US President Jimmy Carter (98) has decided to receive home hospice care “for the rest of his remaining time”, and it is estimated that the days of the oldest former president in US history are numbered. The Carter Center announced on Saturday evening that “After a series of short hospitalizations, former President Jimmy Carter has decided to spend the remainder of his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of further medical intervention.”

No details were given about the condition of the former president, but the grandson, Jason Carter, who serves as the chairman of the board of trustees of the Carter Center, said that he visited his grandfather and grandmother Rosalyn (95) on Friday. “They are at peace, and as always, the house Theirs is full of love,” he tweeted. Carter, the 39th president of the USA, served from 1977 to 1981 and during his time the historic peace agreement between Israel and Egypt was signed. He also continued his activities for human rights and for the promotion of peace around the world and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Carter, who celebrated his 98th birthday in October, is the oldest living American president in US history and is also the longest-serving president since leaving office – more than 42 years.
