In almost eight months of government, President Daniel Noboa continues to accumulate disagreements with public figures, politicians or authorities, against whom his administration has launched various accusations.

The last round of the government of President Daniel Noboa was with the mayor of Guayaquil, Aquiles Álvarez, and the stage was the Attorney General’s Office. The Executive denounced the head of the Municipality for an alleged illegal sale of fuels.

Thus, Álvarez joins the ranks of public officials, authorities, politicians and other figures who continue to feed the list of people who are disdained by the Government. And the Noboa administration has made it clear that there is “nothing to discuss” with them.

However, regardless of the reason for the disagreement, the accusations of the President and his subordinates are not always accompanied by concrete evidence. Many of the opinions of the Head of State are limited to official communiqués or reiterated public statements.

Below, PRIMICIAS collects some of the episodes or ’rounds’ in which President Noboa’s government has participated:

Achilles Alvarez

Initially, the clash between President Daniel Noboa and the mayor of Guayaquil, Aquiles Álvarez, revolved around the sovereign guarantee for a drinking water project in the main port.

The Cabildo asked the Government to issue the guarantee; but when there was no response, Álvarez threatened the Executive with “creating a mess” in the streets. Only then, on July 8, the President and the Minister of Finance, Juan Carlos Vega, confirmed this week that the Government will issue the guarantee.

But Noboa warned that he will inspect every meter of the municipal project. But on July 12, two days after Alvarez celebrated the completion of the ““subdued to the Presidency,” The next blow came: the Energy Control Agency reported 11 legal and natural persons to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for illegal marketing of fuels.

One of them is the mayor of Guayaquil and the other is a company in which he is a shareholder.

Henry Kronfle

The President’s repeated statements against the National Assembly have generated various reactions from its president, Henry Kronfle. The latest was in Noboa’s digital language: a TikTok video.

After the Head of State insisted that there is a “loophole” in the Legislature, to leave corrupt people unpunished, Kronfle responded in his publication: “I don’t have time for lies, I’m working.”

Previously, Noboa had already accused them, without reason, of legislating against the results of the popular consultation, of not wanting to supervise Rafael Correa and of wanting to declare him insane, in order to remove him from office. Despite all this, Kronfle called on the Government to dialogue on July 9. But the Secretary of Public Administration, Arturo Félix, ruled out that possibility. He said that there is nothing to discuss with those who insult them every day.

Rafael Correa

The direct and indirect exchanges between Daniel Noboa and Rafael Correa date back to the presidential campaign. However, once the former president stated that he could never say that the current President is intelligent, Noboa responded with a phrase that became a digital hit on January 30.

“So I don’t know why people voted for me. Because he is nice, because he is handsome, is something incredible,” said Noboa in a sarcastic tone. The phrase in Spanish means: “because he is good, because he is handsome, is something incredible” and is the same thing that Correa said in an interview in English, but with a bad pronunciation. Hours later, the former president reacted to Noboa’s comments:

«It is obvious that you must speak English better than me, if you are a gringo and I am a vulgar Guayaquil native. published in X. But the last ’round’ was started by President Noboa himself. On July 8, he mentioned Correa in an interview. And he stated that before “everything was tied up” in the control of Hydrocarbons.

«We changed the people who were there. It turns out that the person who was in control there was Correa’s cousin,” Noboa said, without clarifying who he was referring to. To which the former president was quick to respond. “Caligula says that the person who controlled smuggling in the Hydrocarbons Directorate was a cousin of mine, without giving a name and as if I were responsible. Does anyone know who he is referring to?” he asked on the social network X.

Leonidas Iza

At the beginning of the year, President Noboa said that clarity is needed, so as to “not give Leonidas Iza the pleasure of lying to the people.” He added that he felt sorry for disappointing the president of the Conaie and not giving him material to “create a fuss.”

On January 8, Iza warned Noboa that the revision of the price of fuels, for the targeting that the Executive intends, would be “a spark for a mobilization» against his Government.

On January 23, the President challenged the representative of the Conaie to participate in the presidential elections of 2025, so that he could then “impose economic measures.” Noboa said that Iza was “angry” and demanding the installation of a dialogue table.

In March, the president of the Conaie said that the President is ignorant and miserable, who “does not know the reality of this country.” And on June 10, he accepted to be a presidential candidate for the Pachakutik movement.

Jan Topic

In January, in another interview, President Daniel Noboa resorted to sarcasm to respond to Jan Topic, until then a presidential candidate for the PSC: «Despite all the suffering… If I put on my glasses, it’s bad; if I take them off, it’s worse.»

“I’m being honest with you, I don’t care about jogging on the beach or wearing glasses in speeches; everyone manages their image as they see fit. But the lack of direction?” Topic said on social media, referring to the violent deaths that kicked off 2024.

On January 9, Topic made a series of security recommendations to the President and asked him to regain control of the prisons, which were in revolt. The next day, Noboa ruled this out: «He has no military experience, has not been part of the Armed Forces, and has no experience in confronting terrorist groups. In May, Jan Topic ruled out running in the 2025 presidential race, for which he was already preparing.

Maria Paula Romo

In a radio interview in January, President Daniel Noboa launched darts against the former Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, and leader of the Construye movement, whom he described as a ‘Pokémon‘, for his «“incredible evolution” partisan. According to the President, his political organization should not even legally exist. Coincidentally, days later, the Electoral Disputes Tribunal (TCE) removed the movement from the electoral register.

Romo then denounced that Noboa pressured the electoral authority. And in April he commented that the President resembled former President Rafael Correa, who in his Saturday broadcasts called for the dissolution of political organizations.

Veronica Abbot

Problems between President Daniel Noboa and his vice president, Verónica Abad, have been accumulating since the second round of elections. Without a clear argument, the President banished his running mate to Israel, as soon as his government began.

Since then, the Government has dedicated itself to discrediting Abad and hoping that other institutions will get rid of her, without success so far:

The judicial process for alleged offer to engage in influence peddling.

The request to prosecute her criminally, which was denied by the National Assembly.

The complaint about early campaigning in the 2023 precincts, which was filed by the Electoral Disputes Tribunal (TCE).

Noboa and his officials have made it clear that they do not trust the Second Magistrate and that she is an enemy of the Executive.

The goal is therefore to find a legal way for the President to be able to campaign for his re-election, without having to hand over the baton to Abad. Although there is still no ‘solution’ in sight, President Noboa stated on July 8 that Abad ““She will leave on her own.”
