Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Korea Archery Association President, who supported the team’s victory in all archery events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ordered preparations for the ‘2028 Los Angeles (LA) Olympics’ as soon as the current Olympic archery schedule ended.

There is also an assessment that Chairman Jeong’s full support, which took care of the players’ psychological state, meals, and even training one by one, has become the driving force behind South Korean archery maintaining its position as the best in the world.

Chairman Chung said after the Korean national archery team won its fifth gold medal in the men’s archery final at the Paris Olympics held at Les Invalides in Paris, France on the 4th (local time), “From the beginning, my goal was not to win all the events or to win a certain number of gold medals,” and “I just helped the athletes do as well as they tried, or even better.”

Following his father, Hyundai Motor Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo, who took office as the president of the Korea Archery Association in 1985, Chairman Chung, who became the 9th president of the association in 1995, also helped the athletes in both material and spiritual ways during this Olympics. He visited Paris as part of the presidential economic delegation in June last year and took time out of his busy schedule to check out the local situation, and arrived before the opening ceremony to inspect the athletes’ training grounds, rest areas, and meals.

When the men’s team finals opponent was decided to be the host country France, Chairman Chung encouraged the players by saying, “It’s natural that there will be a lot of cheering for the home team, but don’t be discouraged and just do what you’ve been doing.” Chairman Chung cheered from the stands for the finals of all five archery events.

Chairman Chung’s gaze is already set on four years ahead. Chairman Chung said, “(Regarding the Los Angeles Olympics) we need to get together and hold a strategy meeting and analyze the various pros and cons.”
