President Macron’s decision to support Moroccan sovereignty over its Sahara, “a crucial step forward for our bilateral relations” (Eric Ciotti)
Paris – The decision of the French President, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, to support Moroccan sovereignty over its Sahara, is “a crucial step forward for our bilateral relations”, stressed, on Wednesday, Mr. Eric Ciotti, President of the party “Les Républicains”.
“Today, I welcome President Macron’s decision to support the Moroccan position: it is a crucial step forward for our bilateral relations and the Cherifian Kingdom, a historic friend of France, deserves all our support,” said the French MP for the city of Nice in a statement to MAP.
Mr. Ciotti, who recalled that a few years ago he was among the first French political leaders to “demand that our diplomacy join Morocco’s position on the Sahara”, said he was convinced that “this gesture strengthens our ties and opens the way to an even more solid and fruitful cooperation”.
In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, it is recalled, the French President officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty.”
In this same message, the French Head of State assures His Majesty the King of “the inviolability of the French position on this national security issue for the Kingdom” and that his country “intends to act in accordance with this position at the national and international levels”.
