Kazakh President Kassim-Jumart Tokayev has announced that the Russian-led military coalition is expected to begin withdrawing from the country in two days.
Tokayev said the forces had succeeded in their mission to stabilize tensions in the country.
As you may recall, last week Tukayev asked the coalition to enter his country in order to assist in the growing violence. A popular protest that originally began in rage over rising fuel prices has turned into a comprehensive coup attempt against the government. Among other things, the public is outraged at the great involvement of the previous president, Norsultan Nazarbayev, who maintained significant power despite resigning in 2019. Nazarbayev’s family reportedly maintained their influence over most of the state and government.
Tokayev is now informing parliament that he intends to appoint a new prime minister and has introduced initiatives aimed at helping to reduce the class gap, and has promised to raise taxes on some sectors and address government corruption.
The intervention of the Joint Force, CSTO (Collective Organization of the Security Treaty), caused great tension with the United States, amid Western fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
