(24 News) A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in which the law and order situation of Sindh, the elimination of street crime and the operation against the dacoits were considered.
An important meeting was held under the presidency of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the overall situation of law and order in Sindh, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon were present in the meeting. Energy Minister Nasir Shah, Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, Principal Secretary Sindh Chief Minister Agha Wasif, DG Rangers Major General Azhar Waqas, Sindh Interior Secretary Iqbal Memon, Chairman P& D. Najam Shah, Secretary to the President Shakeel Malik, IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, provincial heads of various agencies, Director FIA Zaeem Shaikh and others participated.
Briefing on law and order situation
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah welcomed President Asif Ali Zardari on his arrival at the Chief Minister’s House and while giving a briefing to President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on the law and order situation in Sindh, said that the operation against street crime in Karachi and bandits in Kacha area. The overall law and order situation has improved since the Iranian President’s visit to Karachi and his one-day stay, PSL and international cricket matches and religious events are proof of the improvement of law and order. Keeping an eye on the situation, for the improvement of law and order, regular meetings are conducted with the law enforcement agencies.
Briefing on the elimination of street crime and operation against robbers
President Asif Ali Zardari was briefed by DG Rangers and IG Police regarding the eradication of street crime and operation against robbers and said that the number of crimes was recorded in the first 4 months of this year which is 5 thousand 259 which is 2023. During the same period of 2018, there was a decrease of 172 cases, 5 thousand 357, in 2024, there were 10 thousand 757 cases on property disputes, while in 2023, their number was 9 thousand 782, which increased by 975 cases. Local and special law cases were 9 thousand 40 in which there was a decrease of 785 cases.

The President was further informed that 252.32 street crime cases were reported in January while 251.96 were reported in February, there was a decrease in street crime cases in March and April, 243.35 and 166.2 incidents were reported respectively, 49 out of 48 street crime cases. People lost their lives, 27 of these cases will be traced and 43 accused will be arrested while 13 accused were killed in the encounter. was captured and 9 were killed in the encounter.
The Chief Minister of Sindh while briefing the President said that in 2014, Karachi was ranked sixth in the global crime index, which has fallen to the 82nd position in 2024. In the global crime index, Chicago, America is ranked 39th with a crime index of 66.2. Delhi ranks 74th with a crime index of 59.02, Tehran ranks 81st with a crime index of 59.02 and Karachi ranks 82nd with a crime index of 56.5.
The Chief Minister of Sindh further briefed that there are more crimes than Karachi in the Rank and Crime Index of major cities of the world, while our city is very large in terms of population and area, Sindh Police has taken important steps to control street crime. Shaheen Force has been re-activated with deployment of 386 motorcycles, Police has been restructured Madgar 15 with deployment of additional 168 vehicles and 120 motorcycles, e-tagging of habitual offenders (proposal for 4000 devices), Sindh Smart Surveillance System (S4) project for 40 toll plazas in Sindh with ANPR and face recognition cameras installed.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in a briefing on street crime, said that if there is street crime in other countries, there are reasons for it. There is no specific reason for street crime in Karachi. It should be known, where the stolen goods go, the police should take action against them.
Briefing on the operation against the robbers
Briefing President Asif Ali Zardari about the operations in the raw areas, IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon said that since February 2023, 107 police checkpoints have been established on the left bank of the Indus River, 609 through honey traps. People have been saved from kidnapping, 103 people were kidnapped during the last 4 months from January to April 2024, 76 of the abductees were reported while 47 were not filed, the police recovered 103 hostages and 20 people were rescued. The operation for recovery is going on.
IG Sindh while giving a briefing added that the police killed 63 people, injured 120 people, arrested 418 people, recovered 469 weapons of various types during the operation against robbers during the above mentioned four months, 17 police personnel in the operation. Martyred and 27 young men were injured. Taking the matter forward, Chief Minister Sindh said that out of 618 police stations, 200 police stations have been approved for repair and reconstruction.
The President of the State asked the Chief Minister of Sindh to establish police pickets on the right bank of the river to improve the situation in the raw areas of Shikarpur and Kashmore districts, to complete the Karachi Safe City project on a war footing, to make the entrance and exit routes of the city effective. To start the fencing work on the Northern Bypass, to speed up the completion of the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge, to start the development works on both the banks of the Indus River, especially in the area of Rawanti to Jamro and Guddu to Garhi Tegho, Issue instructions to involve dignitaries to resolve tribal disputes in the areas and also cover the social aspect of it.

The President directed Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to develop effective coordination for tripartite management between Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan while directing police to take strict action against drug mafia.
Speaking on drugs, the President said that the Sindh government should inform all parents against drugs, I have reports that drugs have reached schools which is intolerable, we have to protect our children from drugs.
