Irma Palencia, president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, expressed her concern about the search carried out by the Public Ministry (MP) in the facilities of the offices of the Department of Political Organizations and the Registry of Citizens.

“I am surprised and concerned about the invasion of a part of the institution (…) all the staff are concerned. The director of the Citizens Registry was working on what was requested in an office, but actions were taken, everything is worrying ”, Palencia stated in an interview on the program A primera Hora broadcast on Emisoras Unidas.

He did not rule out having a meeting to discuss the issue; however, he assured that for the moment all the magistrates are in activities related to the electoral process. In the interview he did not make clear the time of the possible meeting.

“This is a judicial proceeding, worrying if, with our presence we cannot hinder it (…) We cannot act with more irresponsibility, everything is there, we trust, that despite everything that is happening, we have to trust the law and in the institutions, he added.

Palencia explained that on Wednesdays they meet to make the plenary session and on this occasion they analyzed various issues, which is why the conference that was scheduled to make official the results of the first round of elections that took place on June 25 was delayed. .

He added that he contacted the legal advisers of the TSE so that they provide support to the holder of the Citizens’ Registry and that for the moment he considers that it is not prudent to arrive because it is an investigation. “It could be seen as obstruction and we don’t want to add unnecessary ingredients to a situation that is very serious,” he said.

This Thursday, July 13, the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (FECI) is carrying out search proceedings at the headquarters of the Citizens’ Registry of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE). The raid is a follow-up to a complaint filed for illegal adherence to said political party.

“Within the investigation there are indications that possibly more than 5,000 citizens would have been illegally adhered to the Seed Movement, through falsification of documents,” said the Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity on its Twitter account.
