Petro outlined three essential components to address tariff challenges on the Caribbean coast. First, he proposed a formula for power generation rates that would benefit water generation companies, allowing them to reduce their rate price to their lowest production costs nationwide.

In addition, he announced an agreement with the governments of Atlántico and Barranquilla for the massive implementation of solar panels on the roofs of homes, accompanied by an ambitious plan to improve housing in disadvantaged communities and localities. This measure not only seeks to reduce dependence on non-renewable sources, but also to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants.

Finally, Petro promised to nationalize the debt known as the “Preferential Option”, that each family has with the electric energy companies. This implies that the National Government will assume the payment of this debt in exchange for financial relief for affected families.

The president emphasized the urgency of making quick decisions, pointing out that this discussion must advance expeditiously over the next month.
