President should resign – 1000 unions strike in Sri Lanka

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and his elder brother, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, have been urged to step down for mishandling the economic crisis.

Colombo:

Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented economic crisis. Thus people from all walks of life are affected. People who have accused the government of failing to deal with the economic crisis have joined the struggle against the government.

A nationwide strike was held today on behalf of the unions. The protest was called for the resignation of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, his elder brother and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the government for abusing the economic crisis. Nearly 1,000 unions took part in the strike.

The streets and trade markets were deserted and unoccupied by the unions’ strike. Occasional fighting also took place.
