President Yoon Seok-yeol’s positive assessment of his state affairs performance has moved out of the low 30% range for the first time in 15 weeks and is approaching the mid-30% range.

According to a public opinion poll conducted by Realmeter, a public opinion polling agency, for the third week of July, commissioned by the Energy Economy Research Institute, targeting 2,506 voters aged 18 or older nationwide for five days from the 15th, President Yoon’s positive evaluation of his state affairs rose 2.2 percentage points (p) from the previous week (32.3%) to 34.5%.

The approval rating, which had remained in the low 30% range (30-32%) for 14 weeks, rose for two consecutive weeks to approach the mid-30% range.

The daily indicator closed at 31.9% on the 12th, then recorded 33.8% on the 16th. It then recorded 32.7% on the 17th, 35.5% on the 18th, and 36.3% on the 19th. The daily approval rating, which had been stagnant in the ‘high 20% to low 30%’ range since the April 10 general election, rose to the mid-30% range on the 18th after three months.

The negative evaluation was 61.6% in the weekly indicator, down 2.2%p from the previous week (63.8%). The difference between positive and negative evaluations was 31.5%p, outside the margin of error.

Realmeter analyzed, “Since July, the expansion of job positivity has been prominent mainly among ideological conservatives, the elderly, and the Yeongnam and Hoseo regions,” and “It seems that the visible diplomatic achievements of the Czech Republic’s selection as the preferred negotiating party for the nuclear power plant, as well as the activation of mechanisms to consolidate approval ratings, such as the intensifying competition at the People Power Party’s national convention, have had the main impact on promoting positivity.”

He explained, “While attention is being paid to the trend of positive views on the party’s job performance after the People Power Party’s national convention, we must also look at the aftermath of the opposition party’s head-on response to the impeachment offensive, such as ‘refusing to attend the unconstitutional and illegal impeachment hearing’ and ‘announcing a statement ordering the return of the Dior bag.'”

This opinion poll was conducted using the wireless (97%) and landline (3%) automated response telephone (ARS) survey method, and the response rate was 3.0%. The sampling error is ±2.0%p at a 95% confidence level. For more information, please refer to the website of the Central Election Opinion Survey Deliberation Committee.
