President Zelenskiy Dismisses Ukraine’s Ambassador to UK Following Public Criticism

by time news

President Zelenskiy of Ukraine has dismissed Vadym Prystaiko, the country’s ambassador to Britain, following his public criticism of the president. Prystaiko was also removed from his position as Ukraine’s representative to the International Maritime Organization. The presidential order did not provide a reason for the dismissal.

The controversy arose after outgoing British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace suggested that Ukraine should show more gratitude for weapons deliveries from its allies in the fight against Russia’s occupying forces. In response, President Zelenskiy expressed Ukraine’s gratitude to Britain and stated that Wallace could advise him on how to express this gratitude.

Prystaiko, in an interview with Sky News, referred to Zelenskiy’s comments as sarcastic, stating that the president mentioned calling Wallace every morning to express his thanks. He added that he did not believe this sarcasm was healthy and emphasized the importance of working together with allies.

The order issued by President Zelenskiy did not indicate who would replace Prystaiko. The dismissed ambassador, 53, is an experienced diplomat and former vice prime minister who had served in the position for three years.

It remains to be seen how this dismissal will impact Ukraine’s relationship with Britain and its efforts to confront Russian aggression.
