by time news

Three days after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron as head of state, the President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, unveiled the official results of the second round of the presidential election on Wednesday. They will be published Thursday, April 28 in the Official Journal to officially close the presidential sequence.

« The Constitutional Council on this April 27, 2022 proclaims Mr. Emmanuel Macron elected President of the Republic », confirmed Laurent Fabius after detailing the number of votes collected by each of the twelve contenders for the Élysée. Emmanuel Macron obtained 18,768,639 votes, or 58.55% of the votes cast, while Marine Le Pen obtained 13,288,686 votes, or 41.45% of the votes cast.

2,233,904 blank ballots

Laurent Fabius also formalized the voter turnout data. Out of a total of 48,752,339 registered voters, the number of voters was 35,096,478. This is equivalent to an abstention rate of 28.01%. A total of 2,233,904 blank ballots were also counted.

« For this second round, due to irregularities observed in 48 polling stations, we canceled 20,594 votes cast, or 0.06% of the total votes cast » during the second round of the presidential election, said Laurent Fabius.

If the estimates of the outcome of the second round of the presidential election are given to the French from 8 p.m. on the evening of the ballot, the constitutional rules show less eagerness to designate the winner.

The Constitutional Council, responsible in particular for monitoring the elections, relies on a network of delegates made up of 1,800 administrative and judicial magistrates responsible for verifying the voting and counting operations on the ground, which explains this delay.
