Having devoted many years of your political activity to foreign policy, and having spent your youth years in exile in the United States, how do you assess the latest developments in the American presidential election campaign? How successful is Joe Biden’s move right now, three months before the election, to withdraw from the rivalry with Donald Trump and express his support for the candidacy of his vice president, Kamala Harris?

Kamala Harris is a strong presidential candidate. As vice president, she has met with world leaders when needed, done errands for Biden, and is no stranger to the role of president. Before that, she was a senator from the state of California for four years, so she has incomparably more experience in politics than Trump. So, I think it’s a very good move by Biden to drop out of the race and endorse Harris. This was a smart move by Biden, and Harris is a smart and experienced candidate.

The weak point is that Harris now has just three months left to campaign for election, while Trump has effectively been actively campaigning for at least this year. And we know the specifics of the US elections – if you want to win, you have to sit on a bus or a plane and go around the country, look the voters in the eyes and talk to them face to face.

That’s right, Trump is up to the task when it comes to campaigning. And the fact that he got his ear shot off only helped him by making him a hero. But I would suggest one thing – let’s see after the latest survey of the week! As far as I know, Kamala Harris is already quite popular and has her own lobby. Pretty sure women will vote for him. Yes, women like Trump too, but the fact that one woman can become the first female president in US history could still appeal to a large contingent of women. And don’t forget that Hillary Clinton actually got more votes than Trump! But the USA has that strange electoral system where it is not only important how many electors have voted for you, but sometimes it turns out to be more important how many electors vote for you. And Clinton actually had more votes than Trump. The American electoral process is quite different from anything we can see in Europe, and at times even quite brutal. I’d put it 50-50 right now that Kamala Harris wins.
