The Office of the President predicted on the 20th (local time) that Team Korea, which was selected as the preferred bidder for the construction of the Dukovany nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic, will proceed with the final contract in March of next year without any problems.

A senior official from the presidential office met with reporters in the Czech Republic that afternoon and said regarding the final contract signing for the Dukovany nuclear power plant, “What I felt during long conversations with the Czech Prime Minister, President, and cabinet members is that (the Czech Republic) has absolutely no other alternative in mind other than having Korea as a partner for building the Dukovany nuclear power plant.”

He continued, “(The Czech Republic) is full of confidence that we must create a win-win cooperative relationship here, so both our governments and the Czech government earnestly hope that this (nuclear power plant) will be successfully concluded and that the nuclear power alliance between our two countries will be able to form a strong partnership in other strategic industrial sectors in the coming decades.”

Regarding Czech Prime Minister Petro Piala’s comment during his meeting with President Yoon Seok-yeol this morning that he considers it mandatory for Czech companies to participate up to 60% in the construction of nuclear power plants, the official said that the Czech Prime Minister expressed his position that it seems like a figure that is entirely achievable, as there are many tangible numbers, such as 13 MOUs (memoranda of understanding) signed in the nuclear power sector alone.

The official said, “There is no set correct answer that must be followed, but if the cooperation mechanism between companies and relevant ministries of the two countries is smoothly incorporated into the plan, we expect a level of localization that will satisfy the Czech Republic.”

Prior to this, First Vice Director of the National Security Office Kim Tae-hyo, in a local briefing in the Czech Republic, listed the following as the main achievements of this visit: △ laying the foundation for strengthening the strategic partnership, △ establishing the foundation for the Czech nuclear power plant order to advance into a nuclear power alliance, △ laying the foundation for promoting cooperation in all areas including advanced industries, science and technology, △ expanding cooperation in personnel and culture, and △ close cooperation on regional situations.
