The Head of State Rumen Radev and the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella will visit the Novo Selo training ground today, where they will be greeted by a guard of honor from the Multinational Battle Group, the press office of the President announced. Sergio Mattarella is in Bulgaria at the invitation of Rumen Radev.
The two will learn about the mission and activities of the formation, of which Italy assumed the role of a framework state in October 2022. During the visit, a static display of armaments and equipment will be exhibited, and the two presidents will hold meetings with the Bulgarian and Italian contingents.
At the beginning of February, a ceremony was held to accept and hand over the responsibilities of the Multinational Battlegroup with the framework country Italy, of which Bulgaria is the host country. The previous commander of the battle group, Colonel Michelangelo Gencchi, handed over command to Colonel Mariano Scandura. The ceremony also saw the rotation of the Italian military contingent into the battle group.
Rumen Radev thanked his Italian colleague Sergio Mattarella yesterday for the intensive exchange in the field of security and defense, as well as for Italy’s systematic support for our membership in the Schengen area, writes BTA. Sergio Mattarella confirmed the deep friendship that binds the two countries and expressed the hope that land border restrictions will be lifted very soon so that Bulgaria can fully enter Schengen.
