16 min The video is 16 min long. Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard holds a press conference together with Ludvig Aspling (SD), Ingemar Kihlström (KD) and Mauricio Rojas (L). During the press conference, a piece of news in the area of migration will be presented.

– The bills are partly about people who are reasonably suspected or convicted of certain crimes or who pose a threat to Swedish security should not be able to acquire Swedish citizenship through notification, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenegård (M) at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Tidö parties’ proposal that is presented is also about protecting the citizenship of those who are exposed to honor oppression.

– Especially children who are at risk of being taken out of the country to carry out, for example, genital mutilation, “parenting trips” or forced marriage, says Maria Malmer Stenegård.

Citizenship by application is in principle aimed at people who are under 21 years of age and have lived in the country for a long time. According to the proposal, it will be subject to requirements for compliance with the law just as it is in the usual procedure, which thus far has not been the case.

– It has resulted in a series of rather spectacular events where, for example, a person who was detained in his absence on suspicion of murder, the case that happened at the Delta gym, was able to apply for citizenship while he was a fugitive from justice abroad, says Ludvig Aspling (SD).

What should prevent citizenship through notification is repeated criminality or suspicion or conviction for a single crime, the maximum penalty of which is at least four years in prison. Examples include serious assault, serious drug offences, assault in legal proceedings and sabotage against blue light operations.
