Since the voice of “play ball” is heard on September 27 in the beautiful City of Parks, and the XXI National Press Softball Tournament begins, the Holguín Brewers will fight to be included among the big four, as they have been doing in the last decade.
Motivated by their status as hosts and by a recent history where four bronze medals stand out, they will go out to the field to have fun but with a well-defined objective, as they declared to Cubajournalists its director Jorge Ramiro Velázquez.
“The greatest strength of our team is unity, although we have weakness in the area of pitching, our offense and defense are very good. There is youth to polish it and become the team to defeat,” stressed the helmsman who will also see action from the throwing circle.
For this they have a troop with only three debutants and a reinforcement, where outfielders Abel Castro and Fernando Ballester, shortstop Iván Guerra and captain Raúl Rodríguez stand out.
“This team has a mix of youth and experience, it is very versatile and combative. The aspiration is to discuss the title, there is no other choice, whatever it may be,” said Rodríguez, who is one of those who has made the greatest effort to guarantee all the conditions at the headquarters.
“As always, we will be a plaza full of hospitality and surprises for the press softball players. Expoholguin will be in charge of accommodation, while all provincial organizations will support each of the activities.
“The program includes a tour of sites of economic and social importance and an exchange with territorial authorities. We will have several new economic actors that will be participating in the event, among them Cervecería Bucanero SA and the Ministry of Tourism, which deserve special recognition,” noted the captain.
“I just say to the remaining seven teams: watch out for the Brewers! In addition to enjoying the beer, we can give our little surprise…”, concluded its director Velázquez.
