Severe Dengue Fever Outbreak Raises Concerns Worldwide

November 18, 2023

Dengue fever, also known as Dengue hemorrhagic fever, has become a growing concern worldwide as the number of cases continues to rise. This disease is caused by the Dengue virus and is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. While there are four strains of the virus, it is the DENV-1 to DENV-4 strains that primarily cause dengue fever.

Symptoms of dengue fever can range from no symptoms at all to high fever lasting more than two days, headaches, and muscle pain. In severe cases, patients may develop small red spots all over the body and even experience vomiting blood. Red stool is also a risk factor that can lead to the patient’s death, usually caused by being overweight, delayed treatment, taking NSAIDs, and having a congenital disease.

The outbreak trend of dengue fever has been more severe than usual in many areas around the world. However, there are measures that can be taken to prevent or reduce the severity of this disease. Eliminating the source of mosquitoes, such as stagnant water, can significantly reduce the population of Aedes mosquitoes. It is also important to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites by using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing, especially in areas with high mosquito activity. Additionally, vaccination is recommended as a preventive measure against dengue fever.

B.Care Hospital is now offering a dengue fever vaccine to help protect both children and adults aged 4 to 60 years. The vaccine consists of two injections and costs 4,500 baht, with the second injection spaced three months apart from the first. This vaccine can be given to individuals who have or have not been previously infected with dengue fever.

To order or find more information about the vaccine, interested individuals can visit the hospital’s website starting today until December 31, 2023. It is advised to schedule an appointment in advance to secure a vaccine slot.
