Prevent your benefit from being suspended by the INSS The INSS suspended, on average, 28,000 benefit payments per month this year, according to data from the first quarter, the most recent ones in the Social Security statistical bulletins. Suspensions that, at least in some cases, could have been avoided by the beneficiaries.

Several procedures present in the INSS routine can lead to the interruption and even the cancellation of payments made to policyholders, such as proof of life, whose obligation was resumed in June this year.
The review program for identifying irregularities or fraud in benefits is also consolidating itself as one of the main causes for the suspension of payments, according to social security consultant Rômulo Saraiva.

“The proof of life is automatic, it does not depend on the analysis of a server, so it cuts off many benefits”, says Saraiva. “But the fine-tooth comb is perhaps the main reason for complaints related to the interruption of payments”, she comments.
In the case of disability benefits, the suspension may also result from a fine-tooth comb for the reassessment of the insured’s health condition. Those who do not schedule or do not attend the examination stop receiving the monthly deposits.

The income of those who are away from work due to illness can also be at risk if there is non-compliance with the order of participation in a professional rehabilitation program, whose purpose is to enable the worker to develop an activity compatible with his limitations.

Even a simple distraction, such as failing to move the money deposited by the INSS for more than 60 days, can result in a temporary block of income. “As well as the lack of proof of life, the lack of withdrawal of the payment tends to be interpreted as an indication that the beneficiary has died”, explains Saraiva.
