“In this campaign, we have no adversaries on the left” the strategists of Raphaël Glucksmann‘s campaign have kept repeating in recent days. However this Wednesday, May 1, the head of the list of the Socialist Party and Place publique in the European elections decided to break the rule to denounce by name the Insoumis and their leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon after being prevented from joining the procession of the 1st May in Saint-Étienne (Loire), where he came to support Casino employees. An ouster which notably earned him the support of the boss of the CGT Sophie Binet and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal who called for “respect for the integrity of people” in the political fight.
Greeted with cries of “Glucksmann get out of it”, “PS bastard” or even “Palestine will live” by several dozen people, and targeted by jets of paint, the MEP had to give up joining the demonstration. “These people are not democrats. We see it in their violence,” reacted quickly to the essayist, who assured that he had seen among the activists flags of La France insoumise and the Trotskyist Permanent Revolution movement.
“It’s a reaction of frustration because the dynamic is with us,” he added, referring to the polls, several of which place him at 14%, far ahead of his left-wing competitors and a few points behind the Macronist candidate Valérie. Hayer.
“These attacks are the result of months of hatred and slander”
A little later, on the social network “These attacks are the result of months of hatred and slander orchestrated by the Insoumis and others,” denounced the candidate, referring to “messages of hatred received by the thousands – very often with anti-Semitic connotations” which are multiplying as of his progress in the polls.
Violence will not pass! On May 1st, we came to Saint-Etienne to support the Casino workers.
Small violent groups attacked us. These attacks are the result of months of hatred and slander cleverly orchestrated by the Insoumis and others🧵

“Electoral competition does not authorize everything,” he continues. “It is time to put the taboo of violence against people back on the agenda. Time to stop playing with fire like Jean-Luc Mélenchon and others do every day,” the candidate also explains, worrying about a “brutalization of public life.”
After a first message attributing his ouster to the Young Communists, during a speech on the sidelines of the Parisian procession. More vindictive, the coordinator of La France insoumise Manuel Bompard accused Glucksmann of lies, on X.
“Preventing you from protesting is not normal. Smearing the rebels by making them bear the responsibility is no more. The Insoumis have never used these methods. Your false accusations are dishonest and revolting. Campaign differently,” urged the LFI MP. No doubt, the battle between Glucksmann and the Insoumis is well underway.
