The Disease Prevention and Control Office in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is urging parents to be vigilant in preventing diphtheria, a potentially serious and contagious disease. Dr. Kraisorn Tothapthiang, the Director of the Office, emphasized the importance of vaccination for both children and adults to prevent the spread of the disease.

Diphtheria is caused by bacteria and is easily transmitted through coughing, sneezing, or contact with secretions of infected individuals. Symptoms of the disease include high fever, chills, runny nose, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing food. In severe cases, it can lead to suffocation and life-threatening complications such as myocarditis and nerve inflammation.

Dr. Kraisorn stressed the significance of prevention through vaccination. Children are recommended to receive the diphtheria vaccine at specific ages, including 2, 4, 6, and 18 months, and a booster at 4 years of age. Adults should also receive tetanus and diphtheria booster vaccines every 10 years to maintain immunity.

Parents are advised to bring their children for vaccination at the specified intervals, as diphtheria can be fatal if not promptly treated. It is crucial for parents to closely monitor their child’s symptoms and seek immediate medical attention if they display any signs of the disease.
