Georg Weiser’s (Joachim Król) happy camper trip around the world comes to an abrupt end when his jacket is stolen along with all the papers. Because he follows the thief onto a ferry and is stopped by the crew, the alleged stowaway ends up in custody on La Gomera. A deep animosity develops between Weiser and the unflinching Spanish police chief Vidal (Gabriel Munoz Munoz), which comes to a head when Weiser escapes.

Washington, 1971. Katharine “Kay” Graham (Meryl Streep) is the publisher of the long-established Washington Post and faces a challenge: she wants to make the stagnant company profitable by going public. The editor is Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), who wants to compete with the all-powerful New York Times. When a scandalous story about the true background of the Vietnam War appears there, Ben immediately sends his reporters to the unknown source in order to get hold of the top-secret “Pentagon Papers” himself.
