WELLINGTON, New Zealand’s parliament has outnumbered its male MPs for the first time.

Consequently, the number of female MPs in Parliament has increased for the first time.

The number of female MPs in the New Zealand Parliament increased to 60 after Soraya Backmason took office.

At the same time, the number of male MPs is 59.

Apart from New Zealand, the International Parliamentary Association said the number of female MPs will exceed 50 per cent this year.

Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Rwanda and United Arab Emirates are included in this list. Internationally, the number of women MPs is 26 percent.
