Verification of prices, weights and measures of basic necessities, especially meat, dairy, eggs, fruits, vegetables and vegetables, are part of the operations carried out by the Police Department in Carchi.
Since last week, they have been visiting the Cepia, Central, San Miguel, and Wholesale markets, warehouses on Brasil and Calderón streets, stores and distributors in the city of Tulcán, where in three days they carried out 16 controls of this type.
Luis Jurado, mayor of the province, pointed out that the operations are carried out in coordination with the National Police and the National Police Station.
He added that during the control actions it is verified that the owners of the sales establishments have the Annual Operating Permit (PAF), the display of the price list in places visible to consumers and avoid speculation of the same.
Guillermo Obando, administrator of the Tulcán wholesale market, assured that prices are stable due to low season.
However, the mayor Jurado confirmed that the price of the bucket of eggs has suffered a slight increase, due to the presence of a case of avian influenza in the city of Ambato.
“In the central plaza the price varies between $4 and $4.50, depending on the size and quality of the egg. On the other hand, the price of the onion has risen due to the intense summer and the drought in the growing areas, which causes that there is no production of this vegetable”, he affirmed.
In addition, he explained that, additionally, the prices of school supplies are verified in stationery stores in the capital of Carchense after the start of the Sierra 2023-2024 school year. And, that they carry out operations to release public spaces, mainly in the Ayora park.
