The bill for going to the pump continues to get lighter for motorists. According to data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition published on Tuesday August 16 and relating to the previous week, the liter of SP95-E10 cost, on average, 1.736 euros and that of diesel 1.79 euros. This represents a drop of more than 6 cents for the first and more than 4 cents for the second compared to the previous week.

The trend is the same for the other fuels. On average, the liter of SP95 was displayed at 1.7790 euro, that of SP98, at 1.8420 euro and that of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) at 0.8590 euro. Price levels which remain high but which had not been reached since February.

More aid from September

At the start of the summer, fuel prices peaked, for several weeks exceeding the highly symbolic two-euro mark. Since then, these have dropped considerably. In July, for example, diesel and SP95-E10 lost around 20 cents. And over the first two weeks of August the drop is 7 cents for each of the two main fuels. A breath of fresh air for motorists’ wallets as aid from the government and TotalEnergies will ramp up at the start of the school year. Bruno Le Maire explained that the discount will reach 30 cents from September, before dropping to 10 in November and December. The French oil giant has announced that it will drop from 12 to 20 cents from October 1 to 31, then to 10 cents for the last two months of the year.
