Price hikes: Consumer advocates file class action lawsuit against DAZN

by time news

The huge price increase angered many customers. The costs were almost doubled. Now consumer advocates are announcing the next legal step.

Angry sports fans can expect legal clarification after massive price hikes at DAZN in the summer of 2022. The class action lawsuit against the internet sports broadcaster announced by the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations is being heard by the High Regional Court (OLG) in Hamm. A spokesman for the federal association confirmed this at the request of the German Press Agency.

“The court will transfer the statement of claim and it will be served on the defendant company (…) Unfortunately, we cannot predict exactly when that will happen,” said Sebastian Reiling from the consumer advice center. A spokesperson for the OLG only confirmed that a representative action had been taken against a streaming provider, without naming it.
The federal association announced the lawsuit already at the beginning of 2023. The reason was a large increase in the price of DAZN. The sports channel offers Bundesliga and Champions League matches, among other things. In the summer of 2022, the price for current customers was almost doubled from 14.99 to 29.99 euros. Consumer advocates complain that the price increase clause in the contracts is not transparent and therefore ineffective.

After the law is served in England, the legal register will be opened, said the federal association. No information can be given at this time.
