The price of electricity today, Friday, August 25, drops by 16%. If you are a consumer with a regulated electricity rate, it is important to pay attention to the cheapest hours of the day to take advantage of the sections with the lowest electricity costs. According to the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE), the price of light in the wholesale market falls slightly compared to the previous day to stand at 111.69 euros / MWh. This will allow the user with a regulated rate to save when starting up their household appliances.

The cost of electricity in the wholesale market is transferred to the consumer’s bill. For this reason, the average price of electricity today is 0.1772 euros/kWh, according to data from Red Eléctrica. This cost for the consumer in the regulated tariff (PVPC, toll 2.0 TD) includes adjustment services, the cost of marketing, financing, tolls and charges such as interruptibility or auction deficits.

Cheaper hours in the price of electricity

The small consumer can enjoy a cheaper electricity bill at the end of the month if he takes advantage of the cheapest hours of the day for electricity. Thus, today the hour with the cheapest light price is the one that goes from 04:00 to 05:00, with 0.1299 euros per kilowatt hour. It will therefore be the section with the most beneficial rate and, therefore, the most recommended for concentrating the use of household appliances such as the washing machine, dryer or dishwasher, among others. On the other hand, the consumer must be especially attentive from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the section with the most expensive electricity price (0.2514 euros / kWh.).

Why doesn’t the cost of electricity increase?

Consumers can save on their electricity bill by following a series of tips and recommendations and, above all, taking advantage of the cheapest hours of the day at home. Of course, the drop in the price of electricity is not only in the hands of the user of the regulated rate, but is also conditioned by other external aspects. Thus, the drought that is being experienced in the middle of spring in some parts of the peninsula is contributing to the existence of a greater generation of electrical energy based on the sun. As the hours of sunshine increase and in the absence of heavy cloud cover, the photovoltaic solar plants in Spain are at full capacity, much higher than usual, and this means that electricity prices do not rise even more.
