prices at the pump fell sharply in July

by time news

Last month, motorists were able to benefit from a significant drop in the fuel bill: in one month, the liter of diesel has thus decreased by 18 cents.

Motorists on the road this weekend during the traditional crossover between July and August residents were able to benefit from lower prices at the pump. A relief for the millions of French people on the road to vacation… or back to work.

According to the latest data published Monday morning by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, at the end of last week, a liter of diesel cost, on average, 1.8782 euros, down 5.6 cents over seven days. All the main fuels have seen their prices fall, including gasoline: the SP95 has lost 7.9 cents, going to 1.8448 euros on average, and the SP95-E10 6.2 cents, being displayed at 1, 8082 euro. Superethanol also saw its price drop, to 0.8086 euros, as did LPG, which fell to only 0.8566 euros.

Triggered in mid-June, the continuous decline in prices has enabled motorists to save several euros on a full tank, enough to relieve a portfolio already badly battered by the soaring prices affecting all areas. In one month, the liter of SP95 has thus fallen by 24 cents, that of SP95-E10 by 22 cents and that of diesel by 18 cents. Good momentum, which brings prices back to their May level.

Further cuts expected in September

Between the beginning of June and mid-July, the price of a barrel of Brent fell by around 23 dollars. In question in particular: the decline in activity and concerns about an economic slowdown pointed out in particular by the IMF. It then recovered, rising around 109 dollars, before falling again on Monday by nearly 8.6%.

In September, prices should again fall sharply, by around several tens of cents, thanks to the increased rebates per liter granted by the State, on the one hand, and by TotalEnergies, on the other. From September 1 to November 1, the energy company, put under pressure by several political currents, will set up a rebate of 20 centimes per liter in all of its tricolor stations. A boost of eight cents more compared to the current level, which is however only valid in its stations near motorways. At the same time, the government wants to considerably strengthen its own discount, increasing it from 18 cents to 30 cents.

All of these temporary measures would therefore reduce the bill per liter by around 50 cents, including 20 cents more than the discounts already in place. Enough to considerably reduce the receipt, of course… but still not enough to return to the levels of the end of last year for all that.
