As part of the epidemiological alert, the Government has made new requests for information to suppliers of the main pharmacy, hardware and supermarket chains that sell mosquito repellents and insecticides.

The Ombudsman’s Office explained that the information required includes everything from inventories and purchases of mosquito repellent products to sales and consumer prices, in order to prevent abusive practices such as unjustified price increases.

It also seeks to contribute to the prevention of the transmission of diseases such as dengue, zika and chikungunya, among others, by guaranteeing the population access to mosquito repellents and insecticides at fair prices.

The request to pharmacies, hardware stores and supermarkets must be answered by the Consumer Ombudsman within a maximum period of ten business days from the day following the communication of said notification, which was made this Monday.

The institution warns that evading legal obligations by not submitting the required information, or by providing it incompletely or late, exposes suppliers to fines of up to 500 minimum monthly wages in the industry, for very serious violations of art. 44, literal f, in relation to art. 7, literal h.

President Bukele’s government will act firmly if any unjustified price increases or sales restrictions are found in any establishment selling these essential products.

For this reason, the president of the Ombudsman’s Office, @rasalazar4, calls on the population to cooperate in the fight against speculation by reporting any price abuse to the institution by calling 910 and WhatsApp 7844-1482.
