Zaniar Matapour (45) was convicted in Oslo District Court for the shooting during Oslo Pride two years ago, some media wrote.

The prosecution accepted that the attack was an act of terrorism and applied for 30 years’ detention, the strictest penalty under the law, when the trial ended on 16 May.

There is no dispute that Matapour killed two people and shot nine others when he took two firearms out of a bag and fired into the crowd inside and outside Per på Hjørnet and London Pub on the night of 25 June 2022. It also happened any disagreement between the parties that the shooting was terrorist motivated.

In contrast, Zaniar Matapour’s defender Marius Dietrichson claimed in his proceedings that the attack was the result of illegal provocation by the Norwegian authorities, mainly in the form of the National Intelligence Service. Furthermore, he believes that Matapour is criminally insane.

The Oslo district court has now decided the opposite – that the 45-year-old is safe.

More than 100 million in compensation

Zaniar Matapour has been sentenced to pay more than NOK 100 million in compensation and compensation for the 312 victims of the Oslo shooting on June 25 two years ago, according to TV 2, NRK and VG.

Four groups were convicted

The wronged are divided into different groups, where the legal aid lawyers have asked for compensation. Amounts range from NOK 350,000 to NOK 550,000.

The highest compensation claims were for the ten people who suffered gunshot wounds or other physical injuries in the attack. Coordinating aid attorney Christian Lundin also submitted claims for compensation to the surviving victims of half a million kroner each.

Physical and psychological injuries

The injuries suffered by the victims include both physical and psychological injuries – directly related to the shooting attack. Compensation is a “band-aid” compensation to the person who has been wronged by what they have been accused of.
