Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged Chinese businessmen to invest in Bangladesh, saying that there are huge opportunities for investment in infrastructure, energy and logistics sectors.
He said, now is the time to invest in Bangladesh, we can achieve great things together.
The prime minister made the call on Tuesday (July 9) at a conference on ‘Trade and Investment Facilitation between Bangladesh and China’ at a hotel in Beijing on the second day of the bilateral visit.
The conference was jointly organized by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) at Shangri-La Hotel.
At this time, the Prime Minister advised Chinese businessmen to consider the main sectors of Bangladesh for investment. Besides, Sheikh Hasina also urged investors to bring large investments in Bangladesh’s promising sectors of information technology, tourism, agro-processing industry and development.
Referring to the plan to establish three special tourism zones, Sheikh Hasina said China can invest here in real estate and service sectors. He urged to explore investment possibilities in new sectors beyond these sectors.
Pointing out that Bangladesh is now in the digital age, Sheikh Hasina said that her government is actively working to advance the information technology sector. Incentives for startups, investment in tech parks, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.
He said, our young entrepreneurs are doing well in the international arena. I invite you to take part in this journey.
Prime Minister said, we are providing many opportunities in renewable energy, waste management and green technology.
Referring to the importance of Bangladesh’s geographical location, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has direct connectivity with all international trade and transport routes. Besides, we are in the center of South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia.
Regarding port and infrastructure development, he said, we are continuously improving our seaports, airports and land routes to international standards. At this time, the Prime Minister mentioned the huge domestic market of Bangladesh.
Referring to the business-friendly environment in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is committed to making business profitable.
Referring to the establishment of 100 special economic zones and 38 hi-tech parks across the country, the Prime Minister said that these economic zones are well prepared for industry and investment.
Referring to various initiatives taken by the government to make Bangladesh’s investment environment easy and beautiful, Sheikh Hasina said, she wants to make Bangladesh one of the most attractive investment destinations in the world.
To achieve this goal, the Prime Minister mentioned various mega projects including Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Third Terminal of Dhaka Airport, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Dhaka Metrorail and nationwide electricity and internet.
He mentioned about cheap and skilled manpower, IT freelancers in Bangladesh.
He mentioned various steps and plans of the government to build a developed and prosperous smart Bangladesh in 2041.
Hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors and businessmen from Bangladesh and China participated in the conference titled ‘Business and Investment Facilitation between Bangladesh and China’.
Among others, Chinese Vice Minister for Commerce Li Fei, Chairman of China Communications Construction Group Company Limited Wang Tongzhou, HSBC China President and CEO Mark Wang, Huawei Senior Vice President Simon Lin, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, Bangladesh Ambassador to Beijing Mo . Jasim Uddin and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Lokman Hossain Miah.
Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam presented an informative picture about the investment potential of Bangladesh.
The speakers highlighted the business and investment potential of the two countries. Later, in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 16 MoUs were signed between various companies and institutions of Bangladesh and China.
