Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was moved to see Mirpur-10 metro rail station heavily damaged by vandalism centered on the students’ movement demanding quota reform.

The Prime Minister visited Mirpur Metro Station No. 10 on Thursday (July 25) morning. He visited the damaged parts of the station.

At that time, the senior officials of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) presented detailed information to the Prime Minister about the damage of Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations and the reopening of these two stations.

Metrorail authorities said that the closure of Metrorail was announced on July 18 amid the complete shutdown announced by the quota agitators. DMTCL took the decision after setting fire to the police box under the Mirpur-10 metro station. The next evening vandals vandalized Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations. They smashed many things including ticket vending machines, passenger entry punch machines at main stations. Takes many valuable things. On the same day, Pallavi and Mirpur-11 metro stations were similarly attacked. There was also a lot of damage. Since then no metro rail has been running in the capital.

DMTCL has formed an eight-member inquiry committee to assess the extent of damage caused by the attack. Additional Secretary Md. has been made the head of the committee. Zakaria and Iftekhar Hossain, Manager (Operations) of DMTCL have been made Member Secretary. The committee has been asked to report within 10 working days.
