In Penteli, which was affected by the large wildfire in northeastern Attica, is Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with a team of relevant ministers.
Before the scheduled meeting at the Penteli Municipal Building, the Prime Minister visited the closed gymnasium of the Junior High – Senior High School of New Penteli, which suffered damage from the wildfire in northeastern Attica, where he was welcomed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, the Mayor of Penteli Natassa Kosmopoulou, and the Principal of the school. The representative of GEK – TERNA, which has undertaken the restoration at its own expense, presented them with the plan and the reconstruction project for the gymnasium. It is expected to be completed within 6 months. Any other damages suffered by the school complexes of the Municipality of Penteli will be repaired by the start of the school year.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister, accompanied by the Mayor, visited the Holy Monastery of Penteli, where he was greeted by the abbot, and outside the Monastery, along with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, he talked with the teams of the Fire Service and the volunteer firefighters who were present there.
Finally, with the Mayor, he went to the facilities of the National Observatory of Athens where the President of the Observatory, Prof. Manolis Pleionis, the Vice President Dr. Spyros Vasilakos, and the Head of the Research Support Department Dr. Thanasis Marousis welcomed him at the Observatory’s facilities. Mr. Pleionis informed the Prime Minister about the fire prevention measures taken by the Observatory, which played a decisive role in preventing damage to its facilities.
The government team, along with the Region and mayors of the surrounding areas, are meeting to discuss the findings of the inspections and the restoration actions that have been initiated following the wildfire.
