Rameswaram: Prime Minister Modi took a holy dip in the Dhanushkodi Sethu Theertha ocean today to worship Shiva. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Chennai yesterday on a three-day tour of Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister, who rested at the Ramakrishna Mutt at night, left the Ramakrishna Mutt at 9 am this morning by car and went to Dhanushkodi Arichalmunya area, 18 km away. On the way, he waved at the people gathered here and there. People gathered on both sides of the road showered flowers and chanted Jai ram to greet them with cheers.

The Prime Minister who went to Dhanushkodi bathed in the Ram Sethu Theertham area where the Bagh Strait meets the Gulf of Mannar sea and worshiped Shiva and performed Pushpanjali in the sea. Many sadhus participated in this program. Then left there and went to Kothandaram temple where Vibhishana was baptized. He attended the special puja held there and worshiped Kothandarama. After completing the pilgrimage to Rameswaram, Dhanushkodi Sethu Theertha, he left by car. The Prime Minister arrived at the Rameswaram Amrita Vidyalaya helipad at 11.10 am and left for Madurai by helicopter at 11.20 am.

Traffic stop
Due to Prime Minister’s visit to Dhanushkodi, traffic to Dhanushkodi Arichalmunya beach was stopped from 6 am today to Rameswaram helipad base. No vehicles other than two-wheelers are allowed on the road. Tourists and locals were also denied entry. All the shops in Rameswaram Koil Nagar area were closed. City buses are also not running. The Dhanushkodi area, which is bustling with tourists, devotees and fishermen, has been deserted as local fishermen have been banned from visiting the Dhanushkodi Arichalmunya area. Tourists and public were inconvenienced as vehicles including autos were not running. Police were on security duty along the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi National Highway.

Prime Minister Modi, who took off from Rameswaram in a helicopter, reached Madurai Airport and left for Delhi by private flight at 12.35 pm. 3 layers of security were put in place on the occasion of Prime Minister’s visit. Also under the leadership of Madurai Nagar Police Commissioner Loganathan, two Deputy Commissioners and 500 policemen engaged in security around the airport. Vehicles arriving at the airport were allowed only after thorough checks. Sniffer dogs, bomb detection experts and rapid response forces were also involved in the security operation.
