Nirmala Sitharaman told Manorama News that the interventions made during the Okhi and Putingal disasters are proof of this. Nirmala Sitharaman also wished Prime Minister Modi a long and healthy life on his 72nd birthday, who works only in the interest of the country without any selfish interests.

“What ever the needs of Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was at the front by extending a helping hand. During my first days as a minister, a huge fire broke out near a temple in Kerala during fireworks. That firework accident that day was shocking. On that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the place and airlifted a medical team consisting of experts from AIIMS to ensure treatment for those injured in the firework accident. One of the natural virtues of the Prime Minister is his desire to help those who are suffering in any way possible. This is just an example’ – said Nirmala Sitharaman.

“When Cyclone Ockhi hit the southern coast of Kerala unexpectedly, there was a big disaster. That day the Prime Minister called me and asked me to go to Kerala as soon as possible. He was directed to visit the distressed families and ensure whatever help they need. He took the initiative to deploy the Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force on that day. He was diligent to ensure all the help to the sufferers’ – said Nirmala.

Nirmala Sitharaman also said that she is clearly aware of Prime Minister Modi’s respect for Kerala’s contribution to the Indian economy. She also highlighted the social reformers who led Kerala. The minister also pointed out the intellectual advancements that have taken place in Kerala since the time of Adi Shankaran.
