Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 11 new medical colleges and the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies in Tamil Nadu through a video conference tomorrow.

New medical colleges have been set up in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu namely Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri. New medical colleges have been built at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore. Of this, Rs 2,145 crore was provided by the Central Government and the balance by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

These medical colleges have been built on the basis of the Prime Minister’s continuous efforts to increase the quality of medical education across the country and to improve the health infrastructure. The new medical colleges with a total of 1,450 seats are being set up under the Central Government-sponsored scheme to ‘create medical colleges affiliated with existing district / emergency first aid hospitals’.

Medical colleges are being set up under this scheme in districts where there is no government or private medical college. Similarly, the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies has been set up in Chennai on the basis of the Prime Minister’s Vision to promote and preserve Indian heritage and classical languages.

The new complex is being constructed at a cost of Rs 24 crore with full funding from the Central Government. The company, which used to operate in a rented building, will now operate on the new premises with three floors. The new campus will have a spacious library, an electronic library, seminars, and a variety of media outlets.

The Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies, an autonomous body under the Central Department of Education, contributes to the development of Classical Tamil through research activities. Through this the antiquity and uniqueness of the Tamil language is established. Its library has a collection of more than 45,000 ancient Tamil books.

The institute engages in educational activities such as conducting seminars, training programs and providing scholarships to promote Classical Tamil and help its students. It also aims to translate and publish ‘Thirukkurala’ in various Indian languages ​​and over 100 foreign languages. These will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow at 4 pm via a video conference.
