In a long-awaited meeting, Major General Yitzhak Barik finally managed to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following his request. This comes after the General’s struggle to secure a meeting with the Prime Minister, which lasted for several days.

According to reports by News 12, Barik faced numerous obstacles in setting up a meeting with Netanyahu. He waited for seven hours at Kirya in Tel Aviv during his first attempt, only to receive different excuses from members of the bureau, including Chief of Staff Braverman and Military Secretary Avi Gil.

After finally securing a meeting, which lasted just a few minutes due to the Prime Minister’s tight schedule, Barik expressed his desire for another meeting exclusively with Netanyahu. However, subsequent attempts to arrange a follow-up meeting were blocked, with an alternative suggestion to speak with MLA Head Tzachi Hanegbi instead. Barik rejected this proposal and insisted on meeting with Netanyahu alone.

The situation took a turn when General Barik appeared on a televised interview and issued a stern warning against a ground entry into the Gaza Strip. The interview caught the attention of Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s wife, who was determined to ensure that the meeting between Barik and her husband would take place.

Subsequently, Barik was called to Netanyahu’s office to provide an extensive review. His office staff reportedly expressed dismay over the meeting, and attempted to prevent it for several days. However, the meeting ultimately took place on Friday evening, following the cabinet’s approval of the ground entry into Gaza. It remains unknown whether the ground entry has been delayed as a result.

During the ongoing conflict, Prime Minister Netanyahu has been meeting with various senior officials who do not hold official positions, in order to gain insight into their perspectives on the continuation of the fighting. One such figure is Major General Yitzhak Barik, the former Commissioner of Acceptance of Soldiers. Their first meeting took place at the Kriya base, during which Barik highlighted concerns regarding the competence of ground forces and emphasized that a ground entry was not mandatory. This week, the two officials met again at the Prime Minister’s office.

As the tension in the region continues to escalate, it remains crucial for government officials to gather diverse perspectives to inform their decision-making.
