Prime Minister Refers ND MP Marios Salmas for Possible Expulsion Amid Controversial Remarks

Marios Salmas is being referred to the party’s Ethics Committee with the question of expulsion from the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, in a letter from the Prime Minister to the President of the Committee.

Specifically, according to sources, the Prime Minister and President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a letter to the President of the New Democracy Ethics Committee, Ioannis Tragas, refers to the committee with the question of expulsion from the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, based on case b) of Article 20 and Article 21 of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliamentary Group, the MP from Aetolia-Acarnania, Marios Salmas.

The New Democracy MP had successively attacked the Minister of Finance Kostis Hatzidakis over red loans and the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis over price increases in pharmaceuticals.

The last straw that overflowed the cup and caused intense discomfort for the Maximos Mansion was the attack on the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni regarding selective tenders concerning the cafeterias of the Ministries of Culture and Health.

It should also be noted that in the meeting of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group last June, Marios Salmas provoked an angry reaction from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis when he questioned whether New Democracy is “with the few or with the many.” “I do not accept insinuations. I will not accept barbs. We are with the many and that’s why we received 41%,” replied the Prime Minister.

Previously, Marios Salmas had also called for an extraordinary meeting of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group regarding the “unfavorable,” as he described it, “electoral result” of the ruling party in the European elections.
