Neighboring Nepal has long experienced political instability. No prime minister has served a full term there since 2006.

In this situation, the election was held the day before yesterday for the 275-member Nepali Parliament. Elections were also held for 7 provincial assemblies with 550 members.

The Election Commission of Nepal reported that 60 percent of the votes were registered in the parliamentary elections. The counting of votes started immediately after that. Of the 275 members of Parliament, 165 are elected by direct vote and the remaining 110 by proportional representation.

Similarly, out of total 550 assembly members, 330 will be elected directly and 220 will be elected proportionally. Accordingly, the Election Commission has announced that the results of the proportional representation election will be announced by the 8th of next month.

The parliamentary elections are contested between the Democratic and Left Alliance led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Dhuba and the Left and Pro-Hindu Alliance led by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal (UML). In this situation, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Tuba won the parliamentary elections.

He has won for the 7th time in a row in his home constituency Dhankuda. While Sher Bahadur Tuba got 25 thousand 534 votes, his opponent Sagar Takal got only 13 thousand 42 votes and lost.
