Spain is one of the most important countries in the European Union. One of the prime objectives of the Prime Minister’s visit to Spain is to strengthen political ties. The visit will also focus on trade, investment and immigration between the two countries.

In 2023, Bangladesh exported goods worth 3.7 billion dollars to Spain. In contrast, the imported products are about 22 billion dollars. Direct investment from Spain is low. However, Spain’s multinational companies have interests in the power sector. These companies have participated or are still participating in the production of at least 2000 megawatts of electricity. After Italy, Spain has the largest number of Bangladeshis among European Union countries. Because, the country is very immigration friendly and there are more opportunities for immigrants to survive by working there.

According to the sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, about 60 thousand Bangladeshis are staying in Spain. It is expected that Bangladesh will give importance to these issues in the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister.

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited Spain to attend multilateral events. This is the first time he is making a bilateral visit. It is expected that this visit will play a major role in making Bangladesh closer to Europe.
