The cast, producers and technical crew of the highly anticipated Amazon Original Series ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ have arrived in Mumbai for the Asia Pacific launch of the epic epic of adventure and heroism. On this occasion leading Bollywood star actor Hrithik Roshan and actress Tamannaah were present as special guests. They received great response from the audience.
Speaking about premiering the series in the Asia Pacific region, Amazon’s Chief Operating Officer Albert Chang said, “Our company has found a lot of new customers in India. And since it started streaming the premiere on Prime Video, the number of new subscribers has skyrocketed. It has increased especially in India. Prime Video is one of the fastest growing digital platforms globally. In the last five years, India’s original series have seen a huge increase in popularity. One in five new customers come to India from abroad to watch Indian series. As a result, a support circle of fans for Indian original works has been created worldwide. JD Payne, one of the producers, said, “I saw the film directed by Peter Jackson and saw Tolkien through it. I was then in my youth. They are one of the few films that really touched my heart. The way the work was created made me think and sink deeply. I also had to read all of Tolkien’s books. Now these books are intertwined with my life. Few days go by when I don’t talk about it. If something happens in my life, I will say, ‘I feel like Faroda is carrying the ring.’ At all the weddings and funerals I attend, I refer to these quotes for eulogy and text. So Tolkien is now a part of my psyche.
And talking about the cast of the film, he continued, “Patrick and I decided that because we were telling an amazing story, the cast should be appropriate. This is the story of the Second Age untold by Tolkien. So we tell the story of the scam of power rings.
We had two types of criteria for casting. Not only do actors have to be great actors, but they also have to be connected to Middle Earth. When you see them on screen you have to feel like they were literally brought from Middle Earth to our world. For each character over a year, we found and auditioned hundreds of performers. That means we found 22 needles in a big haystack for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’.” said.
Actor Nasanin Boniadi said, “My character is a healer. A son born to a revolutionary single mother. I am playing a Southlander. Their forefathers chose evil over good. She tries to recover it. What I love about her is that she is very determined. She is strong and grows in the same style. But her determination to rescue and liberate her people travels with me as someone who spent some time as an activist in my country, Iran. Women in many parts of the world are at the forefront of democracy, freedom and human rights. That’s where I get my inspiration from.” said.
Actor Tairo Muhabit, who plays Theo, said, “All the actors were supportive of me. Especially Nazanin, I was very nervous. I was especially nervous when producers JD Bain, Wayne Seib and Charlotte Branch were there. These people normalized me during the moments I worked. It is very important. I have traveled from Perth to Mumbai for all these beautiful people. It really surprises me.” said.
Talking about his visit to India and his character, actor Lloyd Owens said, “It is very nice to visit India again. I had a wonderful experience working here in the past. My character is a sea captain. It is a legendary character. Lord of the Rings fan favorite hero. Because his sacrifice will be talked about. The pinnacle of goodness. A leader who is independent and loyal and tries to keep his family safe. So I feel very excited and privileged to be here.
My experience was truly extraordinary. We built the capital city of Numenor for the movie. It took six months to build. Talents in every field. Smart people were also needed for this. They created a shifting phase of the city from the ground up to the landscape around it. I watched The Geography of New Menor with producer Jay Payne. I was excited.
Working on this show as a fantasy fan was an incredible experience. Other than that it was an absolute dream job. I am very happy to be in India with this wonderful cast. As a fan of fantasy, this is one of the best roles in my career.” said.
Episode Two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is released on September 2nd on Prime Video. It will be followed by weekly releases in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, ending on October 14.
