New romantic comedy from Prime Video is being filmed in Portugal
“The Map That Leads To You” is based on a bestseller. Madelyn Cline and KJ Apa form the romantic pair.
In recent years, Portugal has become the ideal setting to host international scripts. From “Star Wars: The Acolyte” to “The Maid,” major productions have relied on the charm of the most iconic locations in our country to tell these stories. These days, Lisbon and Porto are hosting the filming of another feature film that brings together several big names.
“The Map That Leads To You” is the new romantic comedy from Prime Video. The release date for the film on the platform has not yet been announced, but it is known that the project began filming in June 2024.
After filming in Spain, with a focus on Barcelona on social media, the production has now moved to Portugal. Various images and videos show the cast and crew filming at several locations in the two cities.
Directed by Lasse Hallström, who has been nominated for three Oscars — “Gilbert Grape,” “A Dog’s Life,” and “The Rules of the House” — the film stars Madelyn Cline (“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and “Outer Banks”) and KJ Apa (“Riverdale”) as the protagonists and romantic couple.

“The Map That Leads To You” is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name, written by J. P. Monninger. Originally released in 2017, the book became a huge bestseller that, not surprisingly, is now coming to streaming.
The story follows American Heather, who embarks on a train journey through Europe with her closest friends after college. In an attempt to savor freedom before adulthood, the character sees her plans change when she crosses paths with Jack, a stranger searching for his grandfather.
Despite a rocky start to their relationship, the protagonists see their affection grow quickly thanks to teasing and camaraderie. However, Jack harbors a secret that, according to the premise, will change both characters’ lives forever.
In addition to Cline and Apa, the film’s cast includes names like Sofia Wylie, Orlando Norman, and Madison Thompson.
