Prince William Surprises Diners by Serving Veggie Burgers at a Food Truck in London
In a surprising turn of events, Prince William shocked unsuspecting members of the public when he appeared as a server at a food truck in London, handing out veggie burgers. The heir to the British throne teamed up with Youtube channel Sorted Food to create a special meat-free burger that showcased the environmental innovations of the 2022 winners of The Earthshot Prize.
A video uploaded to the Sorted Food channel on Sunday captured the moment when Prince William, disguised as a server, handed out the Earthshot burgers to diners. The Sorted Food team prepared the burgers using Earthshot items provided by Prince William before they hit the streets in a food truck.
The customers at the food truck were left gasping when Prince William turned around after a team member asked the “chef” for four Earthshot burgers. Many were left speechless and in disbelief, with one woman saying, “Of all the things I was expecting, it was not that,” and another diner admitting, “My brain took like three seconds to buffer.”
During the food truck experience, Prince William took the opportunity to share the mission of The Earthshot Prize. The prize, a 10-year project founded by Prince William in 2020, aims to “repair and restore the planet.” It recognizes individuals and organizations providing forward-thinking environmental solutions in five categories: “Protect and Restore Nature,” “Clean Our Air,” “Revive Our Oceans,” “Build a Waste Free World,” and “Fix Our Climate.”
The Earthshot Prize’s environmental innovations were evident in the creation of the Earthshot burgers served at the food truck. The Sorted Food team used vegetables typically grown in Kheyti’s Greenhouse-in-a-box, an Indian start-up’s innovation designed to offer shelter and protection to small-hold farmers’ crops. Additionally, the team cooked the burgers using Mukuru Clean Stoves, which create significantly less pollution than traditional cookstoves. To serve the burgers, they used Notpla food boxes made from seaweed and plants instead of plastic.
The collaboration between Prince William and Sorted Food left the team feeling inspired and motivated to continue their work in helping the planet. Jamie Spafford, co-founder of Sorted Food, said, “Being joined by Prince William was a real ‘pinch me’ moment. Hearing him explain how passionate he is about helping the planet and what the Earthshot Prize is doing was incredibly inspiring.”
Prince William’s surprise appearance as a burger server at the food truck not only delighted the diners but also brought attention to the vital work being done to address environmental challenges.
