Princess Kate (42) has cancer. She confirms this herself in an announcement on Instagram on Friday evening.
She says that in January she underwent a successful operation in the stomach region, and that in its wake it turned out that she had cancer. This despite the fact that they did not think it was cancer in the first place.
– Of course, this came as a big shock, says Middleton herself in the announcement video.
She uses the opportunity to thank all the support she has received, and explains that she and Prince William have spent time explaining the illness to their three children.
– It has been an incredibly difficult few months for our whole family, but I have been well looked after by the healthcare system, explains Middleton further.
Middleton says that she has started preventive chemotherapy, and that she is in the initial phase of this.
Operation and conspiracy theories
In January, Middleton was admitted to hospital to carry out a routine intervention in the stomach region.
She remained in hospital for a further 13 days, and has since kept a very low profile.
The few signs of life that have been given on social media have caused a great deal of attention, and have been fertile ground for both speculation and conspiracy theories.
Among other things, the British royal house pulled a photo with Middleton and the children, when it turned out that the photo had been edited and changed before publication.
Several British tabloid newspapers have since published a video of Kate and Prince William allegedly shopping in Windsor.

– Has been pushed forward
Nettavisen’s royal house expert, Tove Taalesen, is clear that Friday’s announcement has been forced by all the printers in recent months. Especially all the conspiracy theories in social media.
– The pressure has been absolutely enormous in recent weeks, and I think this has been pushed forward. She has been pressured to come forward, and now she is asking for peace.
Taalesen is aware that this is important to respect, and encourages everyone to stop spreading conspiracy theories about Middleton.
– Now we have to leave her alone. The British court already said in January that she would be gone until Easter. Now she has appeared and explained the reason, something she herself had asked to be allowed to do. Now it’s time for someone else to get attention, Taalesen asserts.
– Terribly sad and painful
Taalesen is also aware that the cancer news is sad, but praises the princess for the attitude she shows.
– It is very sad and painful that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. So I think she has done the right thing in focusing on her family and children, and keeping her little family together.
She believes that the last few months have been particularly tough for the British royal house.
– It is easy to forget that the royals are completely ordinary people. I think that there have been tough times with both King Charles’s cancer, and now Princess Kate, says Taalesen and continues:
– This is the flip side of social media. It puts an absolutely insane amount of pressure on a small family.
King Charles: – Proud of Kate
After the announcement, the princess received well wishes from several quarters, including father-in-law King Charles.
In a press release, reproduced by the news agency Reuters, Buckingham Palace states that King Charles has had a close dialogue with the princess recently, and states that he is proud of his daughter-in-law.
– The king and queen must continue to give love and support to the whole family, reports the court.
Prince Harry, Princess Kate’s brother-in-law, also sends his regards.
– We wish good health and a speedy recovery to Kate and the family, says Prince Harry in a statement on behalf of himself and his wife Meghan Markle.
The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has also sent his best wishes to the royal household. He wishes the princess a speedy recovery, and begs people to leave both her and the royal family alone.
– The Princess of Wales has love and support throughout the country, says Sunak.
Notified announcement
The American celebrity website TMZ leaked earlier on Friday that there will be a statement from Kensington Palace about the Princess of Wales.
According to TMZ’s information, a video from the princess with a statement would arrive shortly, which turned out to be true.
TMZ further wrote that the purpose of sharing the news now was to overcome all the conspiracy theories that abound about the princess’s state of health.
