Princess Leonor arrives in Zaragoza to enter the General Military Academy of the Aragonese capital and begin the first year of her military training. The current heiress to the crown will become the third Bourbon to be trained at these military facilities. The two previous ones were her grandfather, Juan Carlos I, and her father and current King of Spain, Felipe VI.

During the first two weeks, the princess will complete the “reception, orientation and adaptation to military life” phase, which includes her visit to the hairdresser, the delivery of basic military equipment and the first sessions of instruction and parade. Once this stage is over, she undergoes the “basic military training” in which she will be examined through a level and English test. Finally, she will receive the stage of instruction and training.

What are the training standards?

The princess has received a ‘dossier’ in which all the rules to be met throughout her stay at the Military Academy are outlined. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the heir to the throne will not have any special treatment or privilege over the other cadets. The only exception that she will have will be the departures to attend the official acts on the agenda of the Royal House.

Princess Leonor will receive three uniforms that will be her usual clothing. One of the regulations that she will have to comply with will be regarding her hairstyle, since the Army allows freedom in relation to the length of her hair, although she will not be able to dye it. Cadets will have to wear their natural color. Likewise, the princess herself must wear a bow in a mandatory manner to carry out certain formations that are considered more relevant.

Margarita Robles, Acting Defense Minister, has stated that “today is a very important day, not only for the Princess of Asturias, of course, but, above all, for the Armed Forces.”

What will the princess’s schedule be?

Princess Leonor will get up at 6:30 in the morning in a room with 11 other cadets. Training classes begin at 7:45 am and throughout the afternoon she will have time to exercise and study. Later, all the cadets will go to bed at 11:00 p.m. and will have free weekends, unless they have to carry out maneuvers.
