Though, fans awaiting a potential Baldur’s Gate 4 can, simultaneously occurring, look forward to a substantial influx of new Magic: The Gathering cards inspired by the beloved franchise. This week, Wizards of the Coast unveiled “Roll for initiative,” a massive, seven-set drop for its Secret Lair platform, brimming with Dungeons & Dragons theming.

‘Roll for Initiative’ Expands the ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ universe in Magic: The Gathering

The “Roll for Initiative” drop encompasses a wide range of Dungeons & Dragons content, from sets inspired by classic adventure modules to blacklight art variants of cards from previous dungeons & Dragons sets for Magic.Notably, the collection includes two dedicated Baldur’s Gate 3 sets, each spotlighting a key member of the game’s main party: Shadowheart, the Half-Elf Cleric, and gale Dekarios, the Human Wizard.

This isn’t the first time characters from Baldur’s gate 3 have appeared in Magic: The Gathering. Early representations of the game’s diverse cast were previously featured in the Adventures of the Forgotten Realms and Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander Legends sets. Furthermore, Karlach and Astarion received their own Secret Lair sets as part of Dungeons & Dragons’ 50th-anniversary celebrations. According to a company release, the expansion to include Shadowheart and Gale demonstrates a continued commitment to bringing the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 to life for Magic players.

Beyond Baldur’s Gate: A Wider Range of D&D-Inspired Sets

Beyond the city of Baldur’s Gate, the “Roll for Initiative” drop features a trio of sets inspired by iconic Dungeons & Dragons characters and creatures, the aforementioned Blacklight variants, and a set of lands depicting iconic locations from across the Forgotten Realms. This broad scope aims to appeal to a wide range of Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts.
